How to add English subtitles to a Hindi video in 3 steps

A concrete guide for Hindi YouTubers, Reels creators, and educators who want English-subtitled videos ready in under 5 minutes.

What you need

One Hindi video file (MP4, MOV, or WEBM, up to 5 GB). A LinguaSub account with enough remaining minutes for your video — new users receive a one-time free trial. A modern browser. That's it.

Step 1 — Upload the video

Sign in to LinguaSub. On the dashboard, click the Video tab in the upload panel. Drag your Hindi MP4 into the drop zone. Source language: Hindi. Target language: English. Click Generate subtitles.

Behind the scenes: LinguaSub streams your file to disk, extracts a compressed 16 kHz mono audio track, and sends it to Whisper for transcription. For a typical 10-minute video this step takes 30–60 seconds.

Step 2 — Review and tweak

Once transcription completes, scroll down to the 'Edit & render' panel. You'll see your video on the left with the current subtitle overlaid, and a scrollable list of segments on the right.

Click any segment to pause the video and jump to that timestamp. If a translation feels off — say Whisper heard 'kal' as 'kaal' — retype it in the text field. Tweak the start/end times if a caption feels too rushed or too slow. Click Save when you're done.

Most videos need 3–5 small edits. Some are perfect out of the box. Some need every third line adjusted — depends on audio clarity and dialect.

Step 3 — Export

Two options depending on where you're publishing:

For YouTube: Click Download .srt. Go to YouTube Studio → Subtitles → Add Language → English. Upload your .srt file. YouTube will show your captions as a language-select option under the CC button.

For Instagram Reels, TikTok, LinkedIn, WhatsApp: Click 'Render subtitled video' in the Edit & render panel. LinguaSub burns the English subtitles directly into the video frame (white text, black outline). When it's done, click 'Download subtitled video' and post the finished MP4 anywhere.

Total time

For a 10-minute Hindi video: ~2 minutes of processing + ~3 minutes of editing + ~30 seconds burn-in = under 6 minutes end-to-end. Faster than making the coffee.
